"Rally on the Capitol Square"

Don and I attended another rally on the Capitol Square yesterday. It was in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.......the anniversary of his assassination. The assassination took place in Memphis, TN, while he was there in support of workers rights.

We arrived on State Street as this group was walking up to the Capitol, and joined their ranks.

We were fortunate enough to have found a place at the top of the steps, close to the speakers/band platform. Upon our arrival, VO5 was performing.....they soon accompanied Michelle Shocked when she came up to sing/play, too.

From where Don stood, he was able to take some very good photos of the crowd. As you can see, some were quite organized. ;)

The Reverend Jesse Jackson made an appearance, too. Alongside him is John Nichols, who introduced Reverend Jackson to the waiting crowd.

The beloved bagpipers also made an appearance. Our friend Rory in the photo on the far right.

Pipes and drums performing......

John Nichols about to introduce Reverend Jackson. The two older men accompanying the reverend were workers who were involved in the sanitation strike in Memphis, TN. Martin Luther King, Jr. was in Memphis in support of their strike when he was killed.

Reverend Jesse Jackson speaking to the gathering......

He has introduced and spoken about the 2 men from Memphis and is then joined by the pipers and drummers.......

He was, as expected, very well received......

As Don and I left we saw these mounted police. I had to have a photo for this post! ;)

A view of the gathering as we left to walk back down State Street.
