A few years ago, an event called "Ride the Drive" was organized and now takes place twice a year here in Madison, WI. Don and I rode our bikes downtown Sunday to participate in the 1st one this year.
The City of Madison shuts down several of the main streets, allowing only walking and bicycling, nothing motorized (my electric assist doesn't classify as motorized). ;) If I remember correctly, the 1st Ride the Drive was held mainly on John Nolen Drive and East Washington Avenue, which gave the event its name, but now it has been expanded somewhat to include a loop up to the Capitol and through parts of downtown itself.
As you can see there is a wide variety of bicycles including custom designed ones.
And some with something to say......
But mostly, it is about people coming out and having fun. As you can see in this photo, ALL sorts of fun. ;)
Here are a few more unusual bikes......
Of course, Don couldn't let a chance to have a photo of me with Lake Monona behind me. I'd gotten off John Nolen Drive because of the congestion near the "climbing wall" and onto the regular bike path.
A spectacular view of the Capitol as we ride up East Washington to the Capitol Square.
Madison's Mark Harrod was performing as we arrived at the Square. It was our 1st time hearing him perform and we both enjoyed his singing/songs.
Finally! A photo of Don, normally the photographer. ;) He rode his "Tadpole Trike" for the event.
A partial view of Capitol Square with some of its vendors and riders......
As you can tell from the photos, the weather cooperated and we had a glorious day of sunshine, with temps not too hot nor too cool, but just right! ;) The event was a success!
